Love Next Door kdrama – Episode 10 Recap and Spoilers.
In the 10th episode of the tvN Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Love Next Door’ that aired on September 15, the fact that Bae Seok-ryu (played by Jung So-min) was suffering from stomach cancer was revealed to her family.
Na Mi-sook (played by Park Ji-young) was looking for an electronic dictionary when she found numerous medicine bottles in her daughter’s drawer and said, “What kind of medicine is this?” The two mothers, who headed home to pick up Choi Seung-hyo (played by Jung Hae-in) at Seo Hye-sook’s (played by Jang Young-nam) call, found Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo arguing.
Choi Seung-hyo couldn’t hide his surprise, saying, “Hey, that doesn’t make sense. How did no one know about such a big thing… How could they not say anything when stomach cancer is such a big surgery?” Na Mi-sook, who came in gasping at the mention of cancer, said, “Who said it was cancer? I heard it in front of me and it was stomach cancer… Who said it was cancer?” At this, Bae Seok-ryu lowered his head and cried, and Na Mi-sook asked, “Is it you? Is it really you?”
Soon after, Na Mi-sook hugged Bae Seok-ryu tightly, and Na Mi-sook also shed tears, and tried to drag Bae Seok-ryu away, saying, “Seok-ryu, let’s go to the hospital.” Bae Seok-ryu replied, “Mom, mom, I’m okay. I don’t have to go to the hospital,” and “I already had the surgery. I’m okay.”
At this, Na Mi-sook asked, “What do you mean? When?” Bae Seok-ryu answered, “Three years ago.” Then Na Mi-sook said, “Three years ago was when you were in the United States. How could I not know that?” and “Really? “Really?” he said, and Bae Seok-ryu lowered his head and said, “I’m sorry, Mom, I’m sorry…” Soon after, Na Mi-sook ran home with her daughter and cried to her family, saying, “How could you deceive your parents?”
It was also revealed that Choi Seung-hyo went to see Bae Seok-ryu, who was battling stomach cancer, three years ago. Choi Seung-hyo blamed himself for not knowing about Bae Seok-ryu’s stomach cancer and recalled the time he went to the United States to see Bae Seok-ryu three years ago. Choi Seung-hyo, who went on a business trip to the United States in 2021, headed near Bae Seok-ryu’s house. However, Bae Seok-ryu’s boyfriend was next to him, and Choi Seung-hyo pretended not to see him and turned around. After that, he avoided Bae Seok-ryu’s calls asking, “Have you been to the United States?” without replying.
Choi Seung-hyo said, “She got sick while I was away. She got sick by herself for a very long time without anyone knowing. Seok-ryu was the only person who pulled me out of the cave when I was sick. But I missed all the signals she was sending in the dark. I should have run to her then. I should have told her that she was very thin, that she looked tired, and asked her if she was okay.”
Bae Seok-ryu ran into Choi Seung-hyo on his way home, and the two headed to the playground. Bae Seok-ryu said, “You’re mad at me, right? Why didn’t you contact me? You avoided me. You all know that I have cancer, so I don’t know what to say, whether to comfort or encourage me. At home, Mom cries and Dad is at a loss. Do you only watch what I say? I’m so uncomfortable. I knew this would happen and kept it a secret, but no one knows my deep intentions.”
Choi Seung-hyo responded, “You’re funny. Hey, Bae Seok-ryu. You didn’t tell me because you were thinking of us? You only thought of yourself. You’re a coward and a petty person. You are weak and hypocritical. You hurt the people you love. You did something you should never have done. You left yourself alone when you were the loneliest and most difficult. Hey, Bae Seok-ryu. When things are really hard, you lean on the people close to you,” he lamented.
Choi Seung-hyo sighed, “So what if we fall? So what if we collapse? We can just hit rock bottom together. Then we can get back up,” and Bae Seok-ryu got angry, saying, “I don’t know how to do that. What can I do with the person I am?”
Choi Seung-hyo said, “You did it for me. When Mom left for Africa. When I hurt my leg and stopped swimming. You reached out your hand. You were with me. But why don’t you give me the chance to do that? Why can’t I do what you did for me?” and Bae Seok-ryu turned around, saying, “Let’s stop.”
Afterwards, Bae Seok-ryu left his cell phone in his room and went out, and Choi Seung-hyo heard from Na Mi-sook that Bae Seok-ryu had disappeared and went out to look for him himself. Bae Seok-ryu was at the beach he had gone to when he ran away from home during his school days, and Choi Seung-hyo found him.
Choi Seung-hyo shouted, “You should have told me where you were going. What if you just disappeared without your cell phone? Do you know how long I searched for you? Do you know how worried everyone was? How long were you going to hide it from me? How long were you going to hide it from me?”
Bae Seok-ryu tried to stop him, saying, “You want to talk about the same thing? Aren’t you tired of it?” and Choi Seung-hyo was upset, saying, “It’s not about your physical illness, it’s about your heartache. Why didn’t you tell me that you had depression? Why are you like that? Are you really an idiot? Why are you so stupid? How much have you accumulated in that small body?”
Choi Seung-hyo threw Bae Seok-ryu into the sea and said, “You said you were suffocated. Are you feeling better now? Yes. Yell at me like that. Throw away everything you’ve built up inside of you. That thing inside of you, it’s not cotton, it’s salt. So don’t carry it all alone and foolishly, melt it all here.”
Bae Seok-ryu asked, “Why are you yelling at me? Why do you keep getting mad at me? I’m the one who’s in pain, I’m the one who’s having the hardest time, so why do you keep blaming me?” Choi Seung-hyo confessed, “I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at myself. I heard you were sick and thought about it. I didn’t hear you. The sound of you knocking on the door. You sent me a signal that you were having a hard time, but I closed my eyes and covered my ears. I know it was obvious, but I keep spewing harsh words at you and I feel so pathetic, pissed off, and like trash.”
In the end, Bae Seok-ryu cried, “Why didn’t you reply? Why did you ignore my calls? I couldn’t tell anyone and was so scared all by myself. I was so worried about my mom and dad that I thought about all sorts of things before making my decision, thinking about whether or not I should tell you. You don’t know anything. You don’t know how I feel.”
In particular, Choi Seung-hyo urged Choi Kyung-jong (Lee Seung-joon) to contact him and hear the results of the biopsy. Choi Seung-hyo assured him that he would be by his side, and Bae Seok-ryu ended up calling Choi Kyung-jong. Bae Seok-ryu heard that it was not a recurrence of stomach cancer but inflammation, and Choi Seung-hyo hugged Bae Seok-ryu.
Bae Seok-ryu felt embarrassed and said, “Why are you hugging a person and making a fuss?” and Choi Seung-hyo said, “Let’s just make a fuss for a while like this.”
In addition, Bae Seok-ryu asked, “Mo-eum said that too, but why do you guys prove your friendship with a hug these days?” and Choi Seung-hyo expressed his feelings by saying, “But not me. I told you that I don’t have anything like friendship.”
