Kim Rae-won, Sohn Ho-joon, and Gong Seung-yeon are The First Responders

SBS’s upcoming drama The First Responders puts us on the front line alongside the people who are the first on the scene in crisis situations. The Korean title is a quirky one, literally meaning “the police station next to the fire station,” and that’s exactly what we’ll be getting — a close look into how both work hand-in-hand to resolve cases and rescue lives.
The first member of our main trio is police detective Jin Ho-gae, played by Kim Rae-won (LUCA: The Beginning). His name is particularly on-brand, since it sounds like “Jindo dog” — a breed that’s known for its exceptional hunting prowess. Negotiation is a no-go in Ho-gae’s books; once he has someone in his sights, he won’t stop until he’s apprehended them.
Sohn Ho-joon (Stellar) plays courageous firefighter Bong Do-jin, who’s willing to rush into fires without a moment’s hesitation. He’s described as being a bulldozer while on the job, but he’s ingenuous and gentle outside of work.
Rounding out our trio is Gong Seung-yeon (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls) in the role of paramedic Song Seol. Compassionate and deeply empathetic, she doesn’t let even the tiniest scratch slip past her notice. Though Seol often finds herself shedding tears, she’s resilient at her core, and she’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that her patients receive the help they need.
The drama’s first teaser doesn’t offer much in the way of plot, but it does give us a glimpse into our characters’ jobs. Through a montage, we see each of them hard at work arresting criminals, extinguishing fires, and administering CPR.
Directed by Shin Kyung-soo (Joseon Exorcist) and written by Min Ji-eun (Partners for Justice 2), the twelve-episode drama will premiere on November 12.
