Kim Yoon-seok’s Frog croaks but no one is here to hear
by tccolb
Netflix’s new mystery-suspense The Frog has come creeping in with their first teaser, returning Kim Yoon-seok (Noryang: Deadly Sea) to dramaland after almost 20 (!) years. But his quiet life in the woods is about to be upturned when an unhinged Go Min-shi (Sweet Home 3) arrives as a guest at his cottage.
Opening the teaser on that fateful day, the scene is already tense as we watch a wary Jeon Young-ha (Kim Yoon-seok) greet the unexpected Yoo Sung-ah (Go Min-shi). Although Young-ha tries his best to stay calm, he’s perturbed by Sung-ah’s erratic behavior, which then quickly escalates to red alert. Seriously lady, who are you, what have you done with Jinny’s Kitchen’s Go Min-shi, and I hold you responsible for my insomnia tonight.

This leads Young-ha to start investigating on his own and when he faces Sung-ah again, he’s no longer using honorifics. We don’t yet know, of course, what the back story is. But whatever is happening also involves the shocked motel owner Yoon Kye-sang (The Kidnapping Day) and tenacious police chief Lee Jung-eun (Miss Night and Day).
With all our invested parties upping their game in the closing sequence, Young-ha arms himself in preparation as the croak count ticks higher. We then end the teaser on Young-ha’s reflection as he thinks about the well-known philosophical question of whether a tree makes a sound if it falls in a forest with no one around to hear it.
Written by Sohn Ho-young with PD Mo Wan-il (A Couple’s World) at the helm, Netflix’s 8-episode series The Frog will be launching on August 23.
