Lee Jun-ki fights for Arthdal Chronicles: Aramun’s Sword
by lovepark
After leaving its viewers on a cliffhanger for four years, Arthdal Chronicles finally returns with a new season. Reprising their roles are Jang Dong-gun (Arthdal Chronicles) as Tagon and Kim Ok-bin (Love to Hate You) as Taealha. As for the other main characters, Lee Jun-ki (Again My Life) will be taking over the role of Eunseom and Saya (previously played by Song Joong-ki), and Shin Se-kyung (Run On) will be joining the show as Tanya (previously played by Kim Ji-won).
The new season will take place eight years after Tagon ascended to the throne and will center around the legendary “Aramun’s sword.” The short teaser plays on this concept, opening up with a shot of a city with a statue of a warrior wielding a weapon. Black smoke emerges from the sword until it covers the entire screen and turns the surrounding area into ruins. The leads’ faces are then flashed on the blade, and someone pulls it out of the ground and thrusts it towards a stormy sky. The title cards read, “The master of the sword/Who will become the rightful owner of Arthdal?”

Alongside some major actor changes, the newest season of Arthdal Chronicles has found a different streaming platform as well. While the first season aired simulcast on Netflix back in the day, the second season will stream on Disney+ for select areas.
Despite its initial buzz, Arthdal Chronicles was met with mixed reviews during its original run, and while it was not a complete ratings dud, it definitely performed less than expected. The odd airing schedule and strange division into parts may have contributed to some of the disgruntlement, but hopefully, Arthdal Chronicles: Aramun’s Sword will surpass its predecessor and offer a satisfying, long-awaited conclusion for its fans.
Screenwriters Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-yeon are penning the script again and have joined hands with PD Kim Kwang-shik who directed the epic sageuk movie The Great Battle. Arthdal Chronicles: Aramun’s Sword premieres on September 9 on tvN in the Saturday-Sunday timeslot.
