Episode 4 of What Comes After Love stirred viewers’ emotions from the very first scene, further increasing the show’s popularity.

The Coupang Play series What Comes After Love (directed by Moon Hyun-sung) is a sentimental melodrama that explores the aftermath of a fateful love between Hong, a woman who has forgotten everything, and Jungo, a man filled with regret. Episode 4 captivated viewers by creating a masterpiece in every scene, beautifully contrasting the deep, sweet love between Hong (Lee Se-young) and Jungo (Kentaro Sakaguchi) in the past with the heartbreaking coldness of their current breakup.

In his dreams, Jungo recalls his joyful past with Hong, but upon waking, he finds himself completely alone. His loneliness is poignantly conveyed to the audience. Meanwhile, Hong reflects on her memories with Jungo, triggered by small words in her daily life, falling into longing. The shared memories of Hong and Jungo in Japan evoke a desire for those moments to last forever. Notably, the chemistry between Lee Se-young and Kentaro Sakaguchi in the flashback scenes reminded viewers of a ‘real love’ reminiscent of a spring day, with cherry blossoms in full bloom, filling their hearts with warmth.

In contrast, Jungo’s current reality is dry and painful, like the winter wind, breaking the hearts of many. He often visits the park where Hong jogs, and by chance or fate, he encounters her again. However, Hong pretends not to see him and rushes past. Jungo’s expression of loneliness, paired with his passionate emotions, and Hong’s eventual collapse into despair, deeply resonate with viewers.

Another highlight of Episode 4 is the book concert featuring the author of Sasae and Jungo. Hong watches as Jungo states he wrote the book out of “regret and unforgettable memories of one person.” She realizes that Jungo’s book is a confession about her. Before the weight of this moment can fully settle, Minjun suddenly appears, shifting the mood and leaving viewers eagerly anticipating Episode 5.

Episode 4, filled with memorable scenes, showcases director Moon Hyun-sung’s exceptional directing skills. As the episodes progress, the past love between Hong and Jungo intensifies, moving toward separation, while their present remains cold despite holding a burning flame. Director Moon Hyun-sung commented, “I wanted to portray a universal love story that everyone can relate to, without going to extremes. The emotions felt during love and the pain that follows a breakup cannot be easily defined, so I wanted to explore that process. I thank everyone who has supported this production, and I hope you all have a love-filled autumn.” He expressed his directorial intentions and gratitude.

Episode 5 of the Coupang Play series What Comes After Love comes out on Friday, October 18.
