Totally off topic (but is this something new for me? I think not!) But I am so impressed with the surprisingly many kdrama international fans who are learning to speak Korea and write Hangul!
@attiton Absolutely the only reason I know what you are talking about is my linguistics professor brother-in-law, who calls Korean “the most perfect written language in the world” because the sounds correspond with the symbols. When he explained it to me, I drew on my own expertise, and pointed out that from another perspective, the Southern California surfer language of the early 21st century was the most perfect, because regardless of gender, race, age, or social status, it called everyone “Dude,” thus conceptializing a world of perfect equality.
I have to admit, the first time a student called me “Dude,” I was a little taken aback, and said “Hey–Its Prof Dude to you.” But I did love listening to my teenage daughter’s girl friends calling each other “Dude.” I am generally out of touch with youth culture these days, so I don’t know if dude is in common circulation, but I do know there was a time in the early 2100s, when everyone could be a Celebrity, by being laid back, and not savage!
