Proving Kim Young-dae is not a eunuch in Forbidden Marriage

Proving Kim Young-dae is not a eunuch in Forbidden Marriage

New promos have been released for MBC’s The Forbidden Marriage, including a pretty new poster and comedy-packed video teaser of our main cast: Kim Young-dae (Shooting Stars), Park Joo-hyun (Love All Play), and Kim Woo-seok (Military Prosecutor Doberman).

Based on a popular web novel by the same title – which was also made into a webtoon – the sageuk rom-com sets up a Joseon where marriage was banned after a grieving King Lee Heon (Kim Young-dae) lost his loving wife. The caveat was that the ban would be lifted once the king re-marries. But it’s now been seven long years and counting while the king remains without a wife. Here enters our resident con artist Yeh So-rang (Park Joo-hyun), who claims she can see the ghost of the late queen. This earns her an immediate trip to the palace and, naturally, hijinks ensue.

The teaser begins with Lee Heon entering the palace, where he confronts two of his servants for calling him a crazy tyrant. In voiceover, we hear the gossip that the king has gone mad and that he might even be an eunuch. Having heard the rumor, close friend and government inspector Lee Shin-won (Kim Woo-seok) decides he needs to check for himself while Lee Heon flails in resistance. The appearing text screen reads: “The crazy king who banned marriage for 7 years.”

We then cut to our heroine, who proudly announces her return – confident that she won’t get caught – and a man off-screen reports that So-rang is an infamous marriage scammer. In the sequence, we watch her escape a few skirmishes before she finding herself behind bars, where she screams to be let out. The following text screen reads: “Creating a lie in order to survive.”

So-rang is then brought before the king, who asks if she can summon the spirit of his late wife. In flash back, we witness a quietly sweet moment that Lee Heon shared with Kim Min-joo. But the “possessed” So-rang behaves in a wild manner – scaring the king and causing him to faint. As the final text screen declares, “The whole nation is shaking,” we end on a conflicted So-rang who admits to herself that she’s committing high treason.

Production for the drama has the original web novelist Chun Ji-hye penning the scripts while PD Park Sang-woo (Never Twice) and PD Jung Hoon are co-directing. MBC’s The Forbidden Marriage premieres December 9 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
