The mystery surrounding Kim Young-dae’s death in Perfect Family has finally been unveiled.
In the 9th episode of KBS 2TV’s Wednesday-Thursday drama Perfect Family (produced by Victory Contents ⓒHam Chang-seok, Joo Eun, Daewon C.I.), broadcast on the 11th, the complex history between Choi Jin-hyeok (Kim Byung-chul) and Choi Hyun-min (Yoon Sang-hyun) was brought to light.
During the episode, Jin-hyeok confessed to detective Shin Dong-ho (Kim Do-hyun) about his troubled past with Hyun-min. It was revealed that Hyun-min had served 12 years in prison for murdering his own son and had subsequently used his daughter, Choi Sun-hee (Park Joo-hyun), as leverage to extort money from Jin-hyeok.
The truth about Park Kyung-ho’s (Kim Young-dae) death was also exposed. On the day of the fire, Hyun-min had seen Eun-joo checking on Kyung-ho and demanded money in exchange for his silence. Fearing that her daughter Sun-hee would be implicated as a murderer, Eun-joo complied with Hyun-min’s demands, showcasing her deep maternal instinct. After Eun-joo escaped, Hyun-min, left alone, deliberately set the house ablaze, leading to the tragic accident.
As Hyun-min’s demands continued, Jin-hyeok and Eun-ju decided to send Sun-hee abroad to protect her. They even planned to use peanut powder, knowing Hyun-min’s allergy, to eliminate him, resolving Sun-hee’s confusion about her parents’ intentions. With everything now out in the open, Jin-hyeok and Eun-ju began to collaborate more closely with detective Dong-ho.
In a dramatic turn, a confrontation between Jin-hyeok and Hyun-min occurred in an abandoned warehouse where Sun-hee was held. Jin-hyeok brought the money as demanded, but Hyun-min reneged on his promise, threatening Sun-hee with a gun. A sniper intervened, shooting Hyun-min and resolving the immediate threat. Sun-hee, feeling a strong connection to her biological father, rushed to his side and tried to help him despite the danger.
Jin-hyeok, overwhelmed by anger, fought Hyun-min in the warehouse, resulting in both men falling out of a window, leaving Sun-hee in distress.
The episode also uncovered the backstory of Jin-hyeok and Hyun-min’s conflict, revealing their initial encounter as prosecutor and suspect in a hit-and-run case. It was disclosed that Jin-hyeok’s real name is Choi Hyun-min, with further intrigue surrounding the reason for his name change, heightening anticipation for future episodes.
