Malicious haters were at it again in their sad attempts to try and bring down BTS‘s Jungkook. They’ve taken the recent news surrounding the coronavirus to petition for Jungkook to have his Hwagwan Orders of Cultural Merit revoked.
The petition, titled “Please Withdraw BTS Jungkook’s Order Of Cultural Merit”, pointed out the recent news of how he visited Itaewon with 3 of his close celebrity friends back in April. During that time, citizens were advised to socially distance themselves to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The petitioner claimed it was wrong for Jungkook to hold such a high merit when he went against the nationwide recommendation.
BigHit Entertainment had previously confirmed that Jungkook had visited Itaewon with ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo, SEVENTEEN‘s Mingyu, and NCT‘s Jaehyun. As Seoul had not mandated a strict shutdown, restaurants and shops remained open to customers.
After their gathering, Jungkook had voluntarily gone to get tested for COVID-19, and ultimately showed no symptoms and tested negative. BigHit revealed that he is reflecting on his actions and relayed his apologies.
Despite the haters’ attempt to use the recent news to throw shade at Jungkook, the petition failed to gather much support. Within the first hours, they only gathered 1,400 signatures.
The Hwagwan Orders of Cultural Merit is only awarded to the most prestige individuals who successfully raise awareness for the Korean culture. The BTS members were all awarded back in 2018.
