Not just any old hotel dramas…hotel dramas in which younger men with distant/unknown/dead mothers are dissatisfied with the way that older, sharp-tongued, defensive women are running said hotels. These hotels also need to have some connection to the aforementioned mothers.
These men’s fathers must be strident and overbearing, and must be playing some sort of manipulative game with their son’s emotions.
The female leads must also have some sort of childlike openness to the world that allows the viewers to imagine that the dramatic narrative going on around the characters can be viewed from their same “distance,” that is, as an always, ongoing meta-narrative about what it means to be in a hotel, making decisions about running a hotel, or being in love.
Ideally, there’s also comic relief, but that appears to be optional.
Inexhaustible, the hunger for such dramas!
