Heir of ‘ugly sweater’ and other Easter eggs found in ‘The King Eternal Monarch’

“The King: Eternal Monarch” starring Lee Min-ho and Kim Go-eun has only two episodes in, but Easter eggs have already been found.

The drama made references to the past series of the actor. We’ve counted three, so far.

Loyal halmoni

The most obvious reference is the loyal grandmother who serves the character of Lee as Head Court Lady Noh. The actress is Kim Young-ok.  Fans were quick to connect her to the drama where the two first worked together.

She was the head butler in “Boys Over Flowers”. She joined in the latter half of the series. Her character was the strict but loving overseer of everything Gu Jun-pyo.

Hello again, 63 Building

While Lee Gon and Tae-eul was walking on Yeouido Hangang Park, the king asked detective Tae-eul what the building that overlooks the Gangnam River was.  She explained that it is called the 63 Building.

This is also the location of one of the two aquariums used in the drama “Legends of the Blue Sea.”  It is also where  Jeon-jae (Lee) and Sim Cheong (Jun Ji-hyun) meet for the first time since she erased his memory with a kiss.

The two escaped the security of the aquarium and were seen running outside the building.

Heir of ugly sweaters

Finally, Lee Gon came out of his room in an oversized knitted pink sweater as he rushed over to meet with Tae-eul. They talked about Maximus’ (the horse) future at the hotel lobby. He also told her how much he liked the clothes he was wearing.

While it is not the same, fans were quickly reminded of the pink mohair sweater he wore in the drama, “The Heirs”.  Fans used to call the sweaters that Kim Tan wore in the drama as “ugly sweaters.” One thing’s for sure, he’s one of the few men who can wear the color with confidence.
