Ji Chang-wook finds a skulking Shin Hye-sun in Samdalri
by tccolb
The promos have taken off for JTBC’s Welcome to Samdalri and the first teaser takes us on Shin Hye-sun’s (See You in My 19th Life) walk of shame, retreating back to her hometown on Jeju Island when her career in Seoul goes kaput. But the rom-com will soon show our heroine that silver lining in her cloudy life, because a friends-to-lovers romance with Ji Chang-wook (The Worst of Evil) has been waiting for her in Samdalri.
As is the case with most small communities, news travels at lightning speed and the teaser opens on Lee Jae-won (Can We Be Strangers) starting the grapevine that Jo Sam-dal (Shin Hye-sun) is back in town. It doesn’t take long, of course, for everyone to find out and Jo Yong-pil (Ji Chang-wook) goes looking for Sam-dal himself, yelling out her name through the streets.

The camera then locates Sam-dal hiding in plain sight, zipped up and huddled behind what I hope are recycling bags. She mumbles to herself, “It’s supposed to be a secret that I’m back…” while the intermittent text screens announce that: “Jo Sam-dal has returned, turning the peaceful Samdalri upside down.”
In the sequence, we see how trouble follows our heroine and Sam-dal’s friends seem well acquainted with her antics as well, stepping back in unison to keep their distance. Hilariously, our sad hero doesn’t even blink an eye, simply accepting his fate as Yong-pil suddenly goes from sitting to falling, straight into the ocean waters.
Mom Kim Mi-kyung (Doctor Cha) has had enough, though, and screams at our main pair to stop squabbling over seaweed. But our salty Sam-dal goes in for one last swing and the teaser closes as we cut to Sam-dal sulking alone afterwards, grumbling at the cute dog for staring.
Written by Kwon Hye-joo (Hi Bye, Mama!, Go Back Spouses) with PD Cha Young-hoon (Forecasting Love and Weather, When the Camellia Blooms) at the helm, JTBC’s Welcome to Samdalri will be airing in the weekend slot next month, premiering on December 2.
