Lee Bo-young looks for her missing husband in Hide

The first teaser for Coupang Play’s mystery-thriller Hide dropped, showcasing a tense Lee Bo-young (Agency) on the lookout for her missing husband Lee Moo-saeng (Maestra – Strings of Truth). Based off the Welsh series Keeping Faith, this Korean adaptation follows the unraveling of its heroine’s perfect life as she uncovers secrets that turn her world upside down.

The teaser opens with a picture of a loving family, but the eerie music suggests that something is lurking behind the scenes. As Na Moon-young (Lee Bo-young) hugs her husband, he tells her that he will be by her side no matter what, but then the music cuts out. Moon-young looks around her empty home and notices that her husband is gone. His office is also ransacked — glass littering the floor and papers strewn everywhere — and he stopped showing up to work and picking up her calls.

His disappearance leaves Moon-young stumped since he showed no signs of leaving and lived a clean life — no addictions, accidents, or even illnesses. However, every truth she once knew will be challenged, and the teaser shows her husband grimacing as a car falls into a pit and goes up in flames. It then ends with Moon-young entering a morgue and pulling off the white sheet to identify the body underneath.

While I’m unfamiliar with the source material, it’s always exciting to see more shows with female leads that explore different themes and genres. Especially in a thriller which tends to be male-dominated, I like this trend of talented actresses getting to show off their skills and be the ones solving mysteries.

Directed by PD Kim Dong-hwi (The Tale of Nokdu) and written by Lee Hee-soo, Choi Ah-yul, and Hwang Yoo-jung along with writer Yoo Bo-ra (Reflection of You) in the creator role, Hide premieres March 23 on Coupang Play as well as in the Saturday-Sunday slot over at JTBC following Doctor Slump.
