Lee Yoo-Young falls for L’s polite charms in teaser

In the latest teaser for Dare to Love Me, KBS’s confucian-modern romance of opposites, we get to see our heroine Lee Yoo-young (Insider) as she struggles with being constantly belittled by everyone, except of course, for one flower scholar.

The teaser opens on Kim Hong-do (Lee Yoo-young), a designer who lives the hard knock life being demeaned by those around her. As she fills a trash can with her ex’s stuff and sets it on fire, we hear the disparaging comments of those around her: from her friends and family (“How could someone like you expect to become a designer?”), to her coworkers (“Well, the company isn’t expecting much from you”), to her most recent ex (“You were like a knock-off girlfriend to me”).

Our heroine is at her wits’ end and screams, “Why is everyone so mean to me!” But even her apartment seems unmoved by her plight as the smoke detector sets the sprinklers off, leaving her in a wet, self-pitying mess.

But everything changes when Hong-do, right after the sprinkler fiasco, goes to the convenience store and runs into our slo-mo Confucian scholar, L (a.k.a. Kim Myung-soo)(Numbers) in all his hanbok glory. He respectfully bows while handing her a bouquet of flowers as she thinks to herself: “Even if the whole world looks down on me, he’s the one person who would never dare to treat me thoughtlessly.”

LOL. As a card carrying member of the Pride and Prejudice/Mr. Darcy fanclub, I can’t blame Hong-do for instantly falling for this bastion of propriety and class. The real question for her is going to be how she is going to get Mr. Manners to see past his stoic principles keeping them apart and (as the Korean version of the drama title says) treat her thoughtlessly?

Written by Park Yumi and directed by Jang Yang-ho, KBS’s Dare to Love Me will premiere on May 13 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.
