Peering into the world of Netflix’s Black Knight
by missvictrix
Netflix recently dropped stills for their upcoming sci-fi series Black Knight, giving us some great character shots and further cementing the dystopic and dusty tone of this story. How long did I spend staring at that Kim Woo-bin (Our Blues) header image? Don’t ask, because I don’t want to put it in writing.
In the desolate futuristic setting of Black Knight, Kim Woo-bin plays a super sexy black ops agent deliveryman known as 5-8. Except instead of delivering your Amazon package, he’s delivering oxygen tanks, because you know, we humans need that. In the world of Black Knight, oxygen is more valuable than gold, and the people that deliver it have the high-risk, high-reward equation going for them.
But because watching Kim Woo-bin walk around in a gas mask and deliver boxes isn’t enough of a plot (well, I mean, it is for me, but I can’t speak for everyone), he has to go up against the big bad of this story’s universe. That big bad is chaebol heir Song Seung-heon (Voice 4), who can manipulate and wield wrongful power with the best of the baddies.
Joining our hero is the refugee and aspiring deliveryman Kang Yoo-seok (Payback). In the stills below he’s practically unrecognizable as compared to his turn as the righteous young prosecutor in Payback, but I’m excited to see him here, as one of my favorite up-and-comers. And we can’t forget Esom (Taxi Driver) — she plays a high-ranking military officer who helped rescue Kang Yoo-seok’s character and gets caught in the fray.
Written and directed by filmmaker Jo Eui-seok (Golden Slumber, Master), Black Knight drops its 6 episodes on May 12.
