Do you still remember back when Red Velvet was promoting “Russian Roulette”? Well, who could forget it when Irene even caused a lot of noise for her iconic purple hair. The hairstyle was indeed legendary, and it’s been said that numerous young girls would visit hair salons with photos of her hoping to achieve the look!
The hair color became famous amongst South Koreans following the group’s music show appearances. Fans had called Irene the group’s “ending fairy” during their promotion due to how beautiful she looked during this era.

It seemed that everyone adored the look… Well, everyone except Irene! In an interview with Sports News, the idol revealed that she hated the hair color on her and had no idea it had caused so much hype until much later. She said that she only found out when she went on variety shows.

“I didn’t know. I started doing variety shows after a while and found out later that it was the talk of the town.“
The MC told her that there were lots of people who had told her the hair color suited her well then.

She went on to say that after she got her hair dyed, she went to practice with her members. While in the practice room, she couldn’t even look at herself in the mirror. Though she knew she had to practice, she just couldn’t face her reflection.

Irene then replied it was because she hated her hair color so much, she couldn’t stand to look at herself.

Seulgi confirmed the statement, saying Irene tried to avoid the mirror as much as possible. While they were practicing, Seulgi revealed she kept saying, “Aghh, my hair!“

Red Velvet debuted as four members in 2014 with “Happiness” with members Irene, Seulgi, Joy, and Wendy. Member Yeri would join the group in 2015 for their “Ice Cream Cake” comeback. Red Velvet is highly regarded as one of the most popular K-pop groups worldwide by Time and Billboard, and are known as major contributors and one of the country’s most talented groups who help spread the Hallyu wave.

The girls have two sides to their music – the Velvet, which has more sensual, sophisticated feelings with R&B and strong 90s influences, and the red, which is mostly pop and electronic and more colorful compared to their velvet side.
Their first sub-unit, consisting of Irene and Seulgi, debuted in July with the single “Monster.”

Moreover, it has been recently announced that Irene would be making her big-screen debut as well. The idol was cast in her first lead film, “Double Patty,” directed by award-winning film director Baek Seung Hwan. The film is centered on the growth of the nation’s youth. Irene will be taking on the role of an aspiring anchorwoman. Filming is scheduled to start this August.
She initially made her acting debut back in 2016 with the web drama “Women at Game Company,” a sitcom that follows female employees’ love and lives at a game company. Irene received overwhelming praise for her acting skills, with critics saying she was carrying out her role with skill.
