Recently, The Daily Bulletin reached out to loyal and dedicated ARMYs to inquire about what they think are the best BTS songs, and their reasoning for their choices. While everyone might not agree with their answers, the reasons they gave for why they chose their favorites are quite deep and understandable, from relating to the lyrics to appreciating the cultural or literary significance of a song, or just enjoying the sound of the song itself. Here are the 11 songs that they chose.
1. “Spring Day”
This song put me in tears with how moving and heartfelt the lyrics are. You can hear the emotion behind their beautiful vocals. You can hear the individual styles of each member.” — Diana Chavez
2. “Blood Sweat & Tears”
“I love the beat of this song. I think that the synthesis of vocals and rapping with EDM and pop is phenomenal and makes me want to dance. I actually used this song to analyze symbolism and allusion in (teaching a high school) English class. The music video itself is chalk full of symbols and allusions ranging from death, temptation, falling from innocence, growing up, Greek/Roman mythology, the Bible and other novels like (Hermann) Hesse’s ‘Demian’ just to name a few.” — Dawnyelle Ramos
3. “Best of Me”
“The song is a collaboration with the Chainsmokers that just satisfies my EDM craving. What really made me fall in love with this track was the fact that contrary to the EDM high energy beats the songs’ lyrics are actually emotional; a plea for a love to not leave (because) that love brought out the ‘Best of Me.’” — Phoebe Chavez
4. “Paradise”
“The song speaks about the nature of dreams and how society may say that dreams are only valid if they are grand; how running towards destinations/dreams we don’t want is not living. ‘Paradise’ is just being/living. That is the ultimate dream: living. But, it’s also all right not to have a dream that is different from others’ expectations or no dream at all. At least, that is my opinion.” — Dawnyelle Ramos
5. “Airplane pt.2”
“Being a Latina & Mexican, I was caught off guard when this song came out and I heard the Latin influence. It was unexpected for me, (but) shouldn’t be surprising because they blend genres all the time! Even more so when there is a nod to Mexican culture in the chorus when they sing ‘El mariachi.’ This just blew my mind to see how to see how diversified & creative artists can be when they are passionate and in love with what they do.” — Phoebe Chavez
6. “134340”
“In ‘134340,’ BTS personify Pluto after its removal from the planet classification. BTS liken Pluto’s estrangement from the sun to a break up, speaking interchangeably between the perspectives of 134340 and a heartbroken person.” — Shannon Sanchez
7. “Mic Drop”
“It really sums up their success since (their) 2013 debut and is a dance floor hit.” — Jesse Hurtado
8. “Boy With Luv”
“This song kicked off the Love Yourself Speak Yourself World Tour at Rose Bowl (concert) we attended. It’s also one of the most streamed songs of theirs. Like the ’50s retro video, too — good vibe.’” — Jesse Hurtado
9. “Pied Piper”
“The way the vocal line and rap line come together in this song is amazing. It showcases each individual members’ strengths and the melody keeps you on your feet dancing.” — Nikki Moldovan
10. “My Time”
This song hits me every time I hear it. Jungkook’s lyrics hit home regarding all the things that have happened to (him) as an idol and how his view of the world has changed over time.” — Nikki Moldovan
11. “Tomorrow”
“In ‘Tomorrow,’ BTS reflect on the anxieties and frustrations of those in transitionary periods of their lives, such as ‘jobless twenty-somethings.’ The song encourages listeners to keep moving forward, understand that this period of life is temporary, and never forget the ‘you’ of today. — Shannon Sanchez
