by tccolb
The first promos have dropped for this summer’s season of the O’PENing series, showcasing the 2023 collection of seven short-form dramas in a new poster and video teaser.
Formerly called Drama Stage when the tvN show first launched in 2017, the series has become a joint project between tvN and TVING, continuing to give rise to up-and-coming rookie writers and offer a creative space for production teams to experiment with their craft.
Now in their sixth season, this year’s lineup is as follows with titles roughly translated.
Summer, Love Machine Blues
(PD Yoon Hye-ryum / Writer Lee Choong-han)
An odd couple friendship and comedy road movie, featuring an adult wares shopping mall owner Go Soo (Missing: The Other Side 2) and Arin (Alchemy of Souls) as a student on her victory lap.
Walk
(PD Noh Young-sub / Writer Chun Se-eun)
Cranky (but beloved) gramps Lee Soon-jae (Family: The Unbreakable Bond) is tasked by wife Sunwoo Yong-yeo (May I Help You) to fulfill the very inconvenient mission of walking their dog. Also features Lee Yeon-hee (Race).
Summer Cold
(PD Jung Jong-beom / Writer Seo Hyun-joo)
Trapped in a desperate situation, the melo-romance noir has Eom Ji-won (Little Women) putting her own life at risk in order to protect Park Ji-hwan (Our Blues).
One Reason We Can’t Meet
(PD Kim Dong-hwi / Writer Lee Ga-young)
A love story between UEE (Ghost Doctor) and musical actor Kang Sang-joon (Bora! Deborah), who try and tackle the challenges of dating again as returning singles in their thirties.
Don’t Squeeze the Peaches
(PD Jung Da-hyung / Writer Park Sun-young)
After her mom’s death, Jung Yi-seo (All of Us Are Dead) assumes managing her old shop when mom’s past love Choi Won-young (Under the Queen’s Umbrella) comes to visit one day. Shin Hyun-soo (Duty After School) plays Choi’s younger self in the flashbacks.
2:15 PM
(PD Jung Se-ryung / Writer Park Yeon-ok)
In a fairytale-like story, ten-year-old Park So-yi (See You in My 19th Life) discovers the six-year old Ki So-yoo (The Good Bad Mother) living trapped in her home and helps her to explore the wider world outside.
Firing at Myself
(PD Jo Eun-sol / Writer Jung Ji-hyun)
A two-episode sports story about shooting athlete Bae Kang-hee (The Glory) who quit after rigging a competition for the sake of her family. And now, seven years later, she dreams of making her return. Also stars Han Su-ah (Cheer Up), and Lee Ki-taek (Three Brave Siblings).
As a collaboration between tvN and TVING, the full season for O’PENing 2023 will be released on TVING’s online platform on Thursday, July 13. Episodes will then air once a week on tvN, broadcasting Sundays starting July 16.
