UEE needs an Independent Life in new teaser

The first teaser and new poster for upcoming weekender Hyo-shim’s Independent Life just dropped, giving us a peek at our titular lead played by UEE (The Reason for Our Break Up) and the unglamorous family life pushing her to seek her own autonomy.

Hyo-shim is a skilled fitness trainer at her local gym, but, despite her top physical form, she’s bent under the weight of providing for her family. After her father walked out, it had been up to her to support her mother and three brothers. While this task might have been noble when she was younger, after years of thanklessly slaving for her family, she’s ready to finally live for herself.

Now exactly how bad could her family be, you may ask? Well, the teaser introduces us to each member of her chaotic family. We start with Hyo-shim’s mom, played by Yoon Mi-ra (Red Balloon). While she is quick to brag about her filial daughter to listeners, it’s also clear that she depends — almost too much — on Hyo-shim to fix her problems, such as when a spat involving her, a neighbor, and a pail of suspicious brown liquid ends up requiring the police.

Next up are her three brothers. The youngest brother, played by Kim Do-yeon (Strong Underdog), is an aimless twenty-something who spends money he doesn’t have on a convertible car, much to Hyo-shim’s fury. Not faring any better is her older brother, played by Seol Jung-hwan (Red Balloon), who’s been studying for the bar exam for several years and relies on Hyo-shim for allowance money. Finally, her oldest brother, played by Nam Sung-jin (The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won), has a wife who refuses to pay mom’s medical bills when she ends up in the hospital, passing the buck, once again, back to Hyo-shim.

So yeah, it’s pretty bad. But Hyo-shim is done swallowing her feelings, as seen in the last shot of the teaser, where she lands a punch on her youngest brother in a fighting ring. It’s time for her independent era to begin!

Written by Jo Jeong-seon (Mother of Mine) and directed by Kim Hyeong-il (The King of Tears, Lee Bang-won) Hyo-shim’s Independent Life will premiere on September 16, following the end of The Real Has Come.
