One of the top scariest sasaeng encounters occurred back in 2006 to TVXQ‘s Yunho, currently known as U-Know Yunho.
Yunho accepted orange juice from someone he thought was a staff member. He drank the whole bottle and began to feel sick shortly after, noting an odd chemical smell to the bottle. It later came to light that the orange juice was given to him by an anti-fan who was trying to kill him.
Back when the incident occurred, Super Junior‘s Heechul allegedly took to his social media account to express his concern for his “younger brother” Yunho and condemned the actions of the sasaeng, questioning why the media would protect an attempted murderer.
Yunho forgave his attacker for the incident and expressed that he didn’t want her to go to jail because of her age.
Even now, many years later, it’s apparent the incident left a mark on Yunho as he discussed it back in December 2019 on the seventh episode of TVXQ and Super Junior‘s Analog Trip.
Prior to that, during an appearance on Radio Star, he also shared that he attempted exposure therapy (which should only be done in a safe environment under the guidance of a mental health professional) to help him overcome his trauma.
It’s a lie to say it got better after one try but it got better gradually. Now I have no problem.
ㅡ Yunho
It’s a relief and testament to his spirit that Yunho was able to overcome his trauma, however, idols shouldn’t have to put up with this behavior from sasaengs and anti-fans as it obviously has a long-term impact on their emotional and mental well-being.
