Park Eun-bin shines on stage as a Castaway Diva

After persevering through scorching days and lonely nights on no-man’s land, it’s finally time for our long-lost heroine to step into the spotlight. Another teaser for tvN’s upcoming drama Castaway Diva has washed ashore, showcasing our aspiring singer on the stage she’s always dreamt of.

Played by Park Eun-bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), the resilient Seo Mok-ha wants nothing more than to become a singer. Unfortunately for her, a runaway attempt gone wrong ends with her trapped on a deserted island, with only the ocean’s waves to answer her cries for help. Still, she resolves to survive, clinging onto the strength and hope that her favorite song brings her.

When Mok-ha is finally rescued fifteen years later, she gets to meet her number one idol — the singer Yoon Ran-joo, played by Kim Hyo-jin (The Good Detective 2). Ran-joo’s fame may have faded, but she doesn’t hesitate to take Mok-ha under her wing, offering her both a place to stay and a chance to realize her dream.

It may be an uphill battle for Mok-ha, but thankfully she has Ran-joo’s steady faith in her, as well as the enthusiastic support of two brothers who may or may not have puppy crushes on her. Variety PD Kang Bo-geol — played by Chae Jong-hyeop (Unlock the Boss) — may be a little bit of a tsundere, but there’s fondness in his gaze when he’s with Mok-ha. Not to be outdone is his adorably bespectacled brother Kang Woo-hak, played by Cha Hak-yeon (Joseon Attorney), who’s over the moon with elation when Mok-ha receives a rousing applause.

Our unconventional star may be comfortable holding a microphone, but she’s still a fish-out-of-water that has to adapt to an unfamiliar society. Not only is her Korean intonation stilted from disuse, but she also had no need for etiquette and social niceties when her only companions were seagulls and the occasional crab. Mok-ha may be childlike and clumsy, but it certainly adds to her charm — and I don’t doubt that her optimism and fighting spirit will keep her afloat through adversity. “Let’s make a miracle,” Mok-ha declares, beaming radiantly amidst a shower of confetti.

Helmed by PD Oh Chung-hwan and writer Park Hye-ryun — who previously collaborated on While You Were Sleeping and Start Up — alongside writer Eun Yeol, Castaway Diva premieres on October 28.
