Script reading for High School Return of a Gangster

Who’s ready for some body-swap hijinks? Streaming platform Wavve’s upcoming webtoon adaptation High School Return of a Gangster just released the script reading stills featuring their two leads Yoon Chan-young (Delivery Man) and Bong Jae-hyun (Twinkling Watermelon).
The story follows Kim Deuk-pal, played by Lee Seo-jin (Behind Every Star), a 47-year-old hardened mob boss who doesn’t take lip from anybody. While he’s all bluster on the outside, deep-down he’s always had a desire to go to university, something his poor parents couldn’t afford when he was younger.
It isn’t until one day, when he encounters the suicidal high-schooler Song Yi-heon (Yoon Chan-young), that he finds himself one step closer to his dream — although not in the way he might expect.
You see, in the middle of their charged first meeting, somehow Deuk-pal ends up possessing Yi-heon’s body, making him now a teenager at the cusp of university entrance exams. And as Deuk-pal learns more about his current host, like how Yi-heon is a social pariah and constantly harassed, he becomes determined to put his gangster skills to work and crack down on the people making his life miserable.
Part of Deuk-pal’s self-improvement plan involves becoming friends with the class ace Choi Se-kyung (Bong Jae-hyun). While he’s a model student on the outside, Se-kyung also carries a dark secret of his own. Together, the two will push back against the injustices happening within their school halls.
Supporting cast also includes Won Tae-min (Mental Coach Jegal) as Deuk-pil’s underling, rookies Kim Se-won (Not Others) and Joo Yoon-chan as Yi-heon and Se-kyung’s friends, and veteran actors Hwang Bo-ra (Crash Course in Romance) and Seo Tae-hwa (No Matter What).
Directed by PD Lee Sung-taek, with screenplay adapted by Jung Da-hee, High School Return of a Gangster will premiere on May 29 streaming platforms Wavve and Watcha.
