Viewers of the new Netflix K-Drama A Time Called You were shocked when a famous idol-actor appeared in a cameo role.
A Time Called You recently premiered all twelve episodes. This fantasy K-Drama is based on the Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day and stars Ahn Hyo Seop (Business Proposal), Jeon Yeo Been (Vincenzo), and Kang Hoon (The Red Sleeve).
SF9‘s Rowoon, whose new K-Drama Destined with You is currently ongoing, appeared in Episode 8 as the character Tae Ha. Viewers were also surprised by his character’s unexpected BL (Boy Love) storyline with Ahn Hyo Seop’s.

Director Kim Jin Won revealed the reason in a recent interview why Rowoon was cast. He explained that he needed someone Ahn Hyo Seop was comfortable with.
The scene took a lot of careful planning. Casting the right person for the role was important. It had to be someone with whom Ahn Hyo Seop is comfortable, so there would be good chemistry.

So, he asked Ahn Hyo Seop personally if he had friends in the industry. Naturally, Rowoon came up in discussions.
I asked Ahn, ‘Are you good friends with anyone in the industry’ And that’s how we started discussing Rowoon. Ahn suggested, ‘Should I try getting in touch with him?’

For those who might not know, Rowoon and Ahn Hyo Seop have been close friends for many years. The two often meet up to talk about acting.

So, the director reached out to Rowoon’s management. Meanwhile, Ahn spoke to Rowoon, who gladly accepted.
I got in touch with Rowoon’s management. I also asked Ahn to talk to Rowoon about the role, so Rowoon would have an idea about the details of the scene. Some discussions later, Rowoon gladly accepted the offer.

Director Kim Jin Won then revealed even more unexpected information, stating that Rowoon was not paid for his role. All he asked as his earnings for his work was that a meal truck be sent, and it was not even for him. He just wanted one sent to his buddy, Ahn Hyo Seop, under his name!
And I would specifically love this to be publicized: Rowoon didn’t take any money for the appearance. Instead, Rowoon asked that Ahn gets a meal truck sent in Rowoon’s name.

Despite not getting paid, Rowoon was serious about his role, so they communicated a lot about it.
We worked on about three episodes worth with Rowoon. He wanted the scene to turn out really strong, especially since he decided to be in it. The three of us communicated non-stop about how to shoot the scene.

Fans now hope that the two actors will appear in a full K-Drama together, and the director seems hopeful. He noted that after each emotional scene, they would get embarrassed!
I wondered if the two of them would ever get to be in a scene together again. Right after shooting an emotional scene, the two of them would scream around in embarrassment. Or if they had to hold hands, they’d playfully push each other away as soon as the scene was over.
