Teasers for Strong Woman Kang Nam-soon’s heroes and villain

A new batch of superheroes are ready and raring to go in JTBC’s upcoming Strong Woman Kang Nam-soon. Helmed by three generations of strong ladies, there’s daughter Lee Yumi (Mental Coach Jegal), mother Kim Jung-eun (My Dangerous Wife), and grandmother Kim Hae-sook (Revenant).

Starting off with the youngest, Kang Nam-soon (Lee Yumi) is described as a woman with natural-born crazy energy. She does not know despair or when to give up, and from the looks of her character teaser, she clearly has no fear, either.

In voiceover, her mother says that Nam-soon has returned to her arms from the vast plains of Mongolia, and thinks this is destiny. She tells her daughter that she cannot live an average life, and we get quick sequences of Nam-soon riding a horse, jumping out of an airplane, and facing off against a group of thugs. As she tosses people around like rag dolls and carries others on her back, she says, “I am truly happy when I can help someone.”

Next up is Hwang Geum-joo (Kim Jung-eun), a.k.a. Nam-soon’s mother. Her description says that she is unembarrassed of being nouveau riche, and from her teaser, she is clearly rocking her looks and strutting like a boss.

The teaser cuts between scenes of Geum-joo appearing classy in one and badass in the next, but regardless of her garb, she is always strong and confident. Raising a glass, she makes a toast to a world where everyone can live well, not just the rich. As she stands in the middle of the road with her hair blowing in the wind, she declares, “I plan to give it a try.”

Finishing off this family trio is grandmother Gil Joong-gan (Kim Hae-sook). Like the others, she is not someone to be trifled with, and the show describes her as the “Attack on Grandma” and femme fatale of seniors.

Though her name may mean “middle,” she says that nothing about her is middling, and the teaser shows Joong-gan crushing meat with her bare hands, breaking down doors, and sending a person flying across the room. After knocking people down like bowling pins, she carries them on her shoulders to the police station and announces, “From now on, anyone who tries to scam their elders will die by my hands.”

Helping our superpowered ladies is Ong Sung-woo (Would You Like a Cup of Coffee) as Kang Hee-shik. Described as the police force’s elite, Hee-shik seems eager to charge forward and fight crime.

In his character teaser, Hee-shik pushes past a group of black-suited men and brandishes his police badge. He warns someone that he won’t let anyone slide if they refuse to cooperate with his investigation, and then we see him make an arrest.

Last but not least is the show’s villain, CEO Ryu Shi-oh played by Byun Woo-seok (Moonshine). His description calls him on edge as well as a psychopath with a victim mentality. Definitely not a good combination of traits.

Our villain seems to value strength above all else as he narrates, “If you’re strong, then fears disappear. You can do anything.” Whether or not Shi-oh has superpowers like our ladies is unclear, but from the teaser, he easily throws a grown man down the street and kicks away a car. Staring into the camera, he states, “No one can treat me carelessly.”

Written by the original series writer Baek Mi-kyung (Mine) and directed by PDs Kim Jung-shik (So Not Worth It) and Lee Kyung-shik, JTBC’s Strong Woman Kang Nam-soon will premiere on October 7 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.
