News bites: July 11, 2023

  • New posters have arrived for KBS’s upcoming My Lovely Boxer, which stars Lee Sang-yub (Eve) as an infamous sports agent who strives to revive the career of the young retired boxer Kim So-hye (How to Buy a Friend). Written by Kim Min-joo with co-directing by PD Choi Sang-yeol and PD Hong Eun-mi, the sports drama will be taking us into the ring on August 21. [KBS]
  • In the meantime, MBC takes us back to the Joseon-era with My Dearest, releasing new character stills of our fated pair: Namgoong Min (One Dollar Lawyer) and Ahn Eun-jin (The Good Bad Mother). Also starring Lee Hak-joo (Shadow Detective), and Lee Da-in (Alice), the sageuk romance premieres on August 4, following Numbers in the weekend slot. [MBC (1), (2)]

  • Speaking of historicals, Lee Hyun-wook (Remarriage & Desires) is on the casting table for Won-kyung, potentially joining Cha Joo-young (The Real Has Come) who is up to play the title role. Still in the planning stages, production is being led by the Money Game team, PD Kim Sang-ho and writer Lee Young-mi. [Star News]
  • Lee Seon-kyun (Payback) and Yoo Jae-myung (Juvenile Justice) are considering roles in a new crime-thriller and black comedy called Public Assassin (roughly translated). With filmmaker Choi Gook-hee (Life Is Beautiful) attached to direct and scripts by screenwriter Lee Soo-jin (The Devil’s Deal), the series is planning to start filming later this year. [JTBC, YTN]

  • On the JTBC front, our investigative leads are sniffing out clues in the new poster for Behind Your Touch, with the psychometric vet Han Ji-min (Yonder) lending her powers to the sleuthing detective Lee Min-ki (My Liberation Notes). The fantasy rom-com is set to follow King the Land in the weekend slot, premiering next month on August 12. [JTBC]
  • Netflix has been keeping busy with promos as well, releasing a slew of new stills for D.P. 2. Starring Jung Hae-in (Connect), Gu Kyo-hwan (Monstrous), Kim Sung-kyun (Divorce Attorney Shin), and Sohn Seok-gu (Big Bet) among others, the new second season will be coming to our screens this month on July 28.
