tvN’s “Vincenzo” Criticized For Chinese Bibimbap Product Placement, But Why?

tvN’s hit drama “Vincenzo” is under fire for its recent PPL (Product placement) and its getting backlash from some k-netizens.

The most recent episode of “Vincenzo” featured a product placement by a Chinese Bibimbap company, this rubbed off many k-netizens the wrong way.

One Korean news article discussing how Chinese products are being prominently featured on Korean dramas has gone viral, the article has gotten more than 900 comments from k-netizens expressing their frustration with the increase of PPL by Chinese companies. With some kdramas advertising Chinese products that aren’t even available for purchase in South Korea.

The relation between South Korea and China is tense, and recently, heated discussions erupted online after Chinese netizens claimed that Kimchi was Chinese not Korean. In relation to this, some k-netizens believe that it is wrong for a Korean drama to promote a Korean dish as Chinese hence the backlash. Some k-netizens believe this is another attempt by China to claim a Korean dish as their own.

Here are some of the top rated comments:

  • The production companies that accept such deals are traitors, They are willing participants in the Northeast Project of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
  • I shouldn’t watch tvN anymore, I understand that money is important but why would you accept such deals from China out of all deals?
  • You should really think about the Chinese PPL. Bibimbap was too much, don’t just look at the immediate benefit but think it through.
  • Let us not see “Vincenzo” anymore, which company produced this? They’d be the first to sell our country if they needed money.

And more.

What do you think of this?
