In his latest YouTube video, composer Jo Joon Young — who now goes by the name of Michingamsung (Crazy Music) — rated K-Pop idol groups’ talented vocalists. He and a few other professional K-Pop composers picked the “Top 3”, based on their reviews of these vocalists’ abilities to switch up genres, vocal ranges, and qualities of released songs. Without further ado, please welcome K-Pop’s most amazing pipes.
3. Kim Jae Hwan
The composers agreed, “Former Wanna One’s Kim Jae Hwan has a remarkable vocal range that is almost too good to be true, especially coming from an idol.” Plus, as evident from his recent soundtrack “Someday” for the hit K-Drama Crash Landing On You having been a huge hit, Kim Jae Hwan and his ability to appeal to all age groups of the public is said to “give him a lot of potential as a soloist.”
2. MAMAMOO’s Hwasa
K-Pop fans already know MAMAMOO members are all equally talented. The composers added though, “Hwasa has a voice that is unprecedented in the history of K-Pop.” While that, in and of itself, is more than enough to throne Hwasa as one of Korea’s top idol vocalists, the composers’ reviews also raved about her ability to transcend all genres. From R&B to dance, “Hwasa can do them all.”
1. Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon
Finally, the composers unanimously praised Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon for her “well-roundedness” as Korea’s top idol vocalist. They commented, “As Girls’ Generation’s main vocalist, Taeyeon proved that she can work any genre as needed.” This versatility has become her strongest feature. In addition, “Taeyeon’s vocal range is extremely wide — which makes her fit for pretty much any song, any style.” It’s undeniable that Taeyeon is simply unrivaled!
